Issues
I knew there would be consequences to not finishing the damn thing before living in it.
My house not only has a mold problem but also has a mouse problem. Since the walls and floors are totally solid, I'm guessing they somehow climbed up the whole 15 feet into my ceiling (I thought I heard something up there), and were just waiting for me to go on vacation to come down and destroy everything.
We turned on a dehumidifier in there before we left, but it must have shorted out and got turned off, because there was MORE mold when we got back.
I'm emptying the whole house of all my stuff and disinfecting everything with vinegar. I clearly need to finish the exterior!! The interior ceiling has fabric, but that's not mouse proof, so I will have to buy plywood to finish it off. But it will have to wait until I am done teaching summer camp (next week).
My poor house!

Two problems at the same time? That's definitely not the news to make your day. It's a difficult situation to deal with. It's better to solve one problem at a time like with your mold problem. Vinegar is one solution to remove molds, so as borax and hydrogen peroxide. But if all else fails, it'll be the time to call for a mold removal service to disinfect your whole house. ReplyDeleteYikes! A mold problem is bad enough, but add a possible mouse infestation? That’s gonna be quite a pain. Not to mention that dehumidifier going out. I hope you’ve replaced that, as getting rid of mold-infested things at home won’t be as effective if there are still humid areas in the house for them to thrive on.

One problem after the other. It’s too bad about the dehumidifier, as it could’ve avoided that mold infestation, especially if it was quite damp when you left. About the mouse problem, chances are they were already there or somewhere nearby during construction, and just moved in before everything got set in place. I would suggest hiring professionals to get rid of them, and at the same time check for other possible sources of mold that you may have missed. Good luck, and hang in there.
